DESCRIPTION: Ever wanted to know how seafood makes it from the ocean to your plate?

What the Australian seafood industry does to ensure your seafood is sustainable? Or where the top-level restaurants go to get the freshest of the fresh? A behind the Scenes Tour of the Southern Hemisphere's largest Fish Market will answer all these questions and more!

Each weekday, Sydney's market trades approximately 2,800 crates (around 50 tonnes) of seafood through a computerised Dutch auction system to approximately 150 wholesale buyers. The incredible variety of seafood is sourced from individual fishermen, Co-ops, fishing businesses and aquaculture farms in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific Region.

Tours are conducted by trained guides and take you behind-the-scenes to explore all facets of the Market and its operations - including the auction floor, sashimi pavilion and crab and lobster pen.

What you will experience on the Tour:

~ Explanation of how the Dutch Auction and buying system works

~ Tour of Sydney Seafood School

~ Tour of the Auction Floor, viewing over 100 species

~ Witness oyster shucking right before your eyes

~ Find out about sashimi, live product and our retail arcade

~ Free parking & a coffee/tea are included

VENUE: Sydney NSW.

DURATION: 1 - 1.5 Hours. Available every Monday, Thursday & Friday. (Tour begins at 6.55am sharp and will end at approximately 8.30am).

VALID FOR: 1 Adult (14 years of age and above, maximum of 10 people per booking).

RESTRICTIONS: Bookings essential. Maximum of 10 people per booking. Tour only available Monday, Thursday & Friday. ALL participants must wear enclosed footwear.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: What To Wear: Due to Occupational Health and Safety concerns, all visitors to the auction must wear enclosed shoes. Those who do not wear enclosed shoes, will not be granted access to the auction floor. The auction floor can be wet and it is best to avoid wearing leather shoes as they tend to absorb the water. It is recommended that you roll up your long pants/jeans.
